Strange Days had some great perspective on a lot of things. Substance, people, compulsions. And it was done with so much style. Digged the plot and its cast too. Was surprised to see James Cameron in it, in a Luc Besson-ish way.

Now, Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘The Hurt Locker’ is looking good. Looking forward.

I liked the games, Max Payne 1 and 2, in fact I loved those games. When I was about to watch the movie, I was expecting a decent action flick, nothing great. Well it turned out to be an absolute shit, a ridiculously bad movie. Max Payne was an insane character who sees crazy dream sequences and fighting for his own survival as well as for revenge. But the Max Payne in the movie is a moron. Apart from his constipated look and the coarse voice he is an absolute moron. It is just not Mark Wahlberg alone but the entire cast sucked, they sucked! Mila Kunis as Mona Sax, fuck, she was nowhere, anywhere close to pulling off Mona Sax. A movie with a predominant black texture, stiff looks and coarse voice cannot give a noir feeling. Even the brief snippets that come in the game had very good dialogues, the movie’s were amateurish.

I really do not know why lots of people whether they make a movie from a game or adapt a novel put so much effort in changing things till it really becomes bad. Apart from a couple of bullet times and the wife and baby getting killed nothing could be found in common. That is where Zack Snyder needs to be appreciated for Watchmen. It was not a great movie but nothing was added into it in trying to make it great. Zack Snyder sticked to major portion of the book. I guess it was more of a fan’s movie rather than a director’s movie. But sill it was good enough. Max Payne on the other hand, fuck I need to play couple of levels again.

Aronofsky flicks has the best third acts ever. Not that the rest of it aint good. Loved what he did in The Wrestler. And Mickey Rourke couldnt remind(!) me enough of the times to come.
And ya, talking of third acts Radiohead end their songs so fucking greatly (sic).

A guy walks through the forest, swims from one bank to another, lights a fire, mumbles, then goes to his home, wanders around, changes to some women’s dress, takes a shot gun and again wanders around. This is the first 20 minutes of the film. No dialogues, no background score, nothing. After that some meaningless dialogues, I mean absolutely meaningless. After 40 minutes, I pressed stop on my DVD player remote, pulled out the CD, put it back in netflix cover and sealed it.

Nuts!!!

If this is how Kurt Cobain’s last days were, no wonder he killed himself. I guess Gus Van Sant wanted to show exactly how boring and lonely Kurt Cobain’s last days were but you just cannot watch it as movie. No. No.

Some time through the movie, I realized I have watched the same movie by paying 150 Rs at PVR as Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. Then a slight exclamation, “WTF!”. The Hindi version had Fardeen Khan, Koena mitra, Feroz khan…well after listing the ensemble, no more detail needs to be provided as how bad it can suck. Well it had Kay Kay Menon as well, but no one can do anything when the crap hits the fan.

Yeah, the original sucked as bad as it’s desi replica.
